The NFA have decided that the dismal display by Nigerian standards of the national team in the Africa Cup of Nations has prompted an immediate end to his tenure. More news to follow.
Fans in Accra have been left frustrated as they try to get hold of tickets for the quarter final clash between Ghana and Nigeria on Sunday.
The tickets were meant to be on general release Thursday morning but the airwaves in Accra are overflowing with angry Ghana fans. Despite the local organising committees insistence that the tickets have been released it’s a mystery where they’ve gone.
One frustrated fan told NAS “The tickets will not come. The LOC make big money on the black market so we won’t see them here. The stadium is for 40 000 but no-one has them. Where are the tickets?”
The tickets are meant to be sold at selected post offices and Ghana Commercial Banks but it seems that few of the 40 000 tickets have made it to general release as of yet.
On Thursday morning people queued outside Ghana Commercial Bank in Legon, Accra for 3 hours only to be told the tickets were ‘not ready’. On Friday morning at the same bank, fans came early to secure their tickets only to be told that the tickets were sold out.
It’s feared that black marketers have got their hands on the majority of the tickets for general sale. The cheapest tickets - that should retail at 4 cedis (£2)- have reportedly been changing hands for as much as 50 cedis (£25).
This edition of the Cup of Nations has been blighted by ticketing problems. The local organizing committee have been criticised for the late release of tickets and the poor attendances at games not involving Ghana. Black market tickets at Ghana games have been the cause of much anger as the average fan has been priced out.
