As things stand, the fifteens sides in pole position to join hosts Ghana at next year’s showpiece are: Ivory Coast; Egypt; Nigeria; Tunisia; Sudan; Cameroon; Eq Guinea; Angola; Senegal; Algeria; Togo; Mali; DR Congo; South Africa; Morocco.
Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon and Angola can all boast 100% records after securing further victories at the weekend. Togo - with Stephen Keshi now back at the helm - overcame Sierra Leone and impressively now lead a group also featuring the talented Mali. South Africans have reason to be optimistic, also, after Carlos Alberto Parreira marshaled Bafana Bafana to an encouraging 3-0 win.
Zimbabwe are the biggest ‘name’ in trouble after they were held at home by Morocco and will now probably need to win all their remaining games to progress.
But we are only at the half-way stage and no one has been ruled in or out just yet!
