AFRICANS KEEP SCORING... MAKING AN IMPACT IN ENGLAND

The solid presence of African players in the English Premier League remains very influential to the results this weekend as well. Players have hit good form at the right time and it can be seen that the goals keep coming in off of the Africans.

On Saturday, Didier Drogba scored in 2 minutes for Chelsea as they battled to a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa. Michael Essien and Salomon Kalou also made good impressions in a match the Blues had well under control.

Yakubu also found the net for Middlesbrough in their defeat to Sheffield United and it was his first goal of the campaign.

On Sunday, it was Benni McCarthy's turn to score a very easy one in the latter stages of their win over Wigan, and Kanu just couldn't stop scoring as he headed in a goal in their own defeat to Tottenham.

Overall it was another satisfying week for Africa with many other players who didn't find the net putting in great performances ahead of their international engagements at the weekend.

INJURY BLOW FOR BARCA AND CAMEROON

Reigning Africa's Player of the Year Samuel Eto'o was injured in their Champions League game against Werder Bremen last week, a knee injury that rules him out for up to three months. This is a big blow to the reigning European Champions and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

Barca seemed to get over the effects of the loss when his replacement Lionel Messi of Argentina saved their blushes, grabbing a late equaliser in the European game on Wednesday. And Eidur Gudjonsen, the Icelandic former Chelsea forward also seems to have accepted the role when he also found the net in Barcelona's 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao.

The Lions of Cameroon host Equatorial Guinea on Sunday in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and they are going to have to find a replacement for Eto'o.

PRESSURE PILES ON AGBONLAHOR

Gabriel Agbonlahor was born in Nigeria. When he was a year old, his parents moved to resettle in England and he commenced his growth and development in the Aston area of Birmingham. Today, the 19 year old has risen through the youth academies at Aston Villa and has broken into the top team. His performance for the Martin O'Neil-tutored side has caught the eye of all and sundry, and the Nigerian authorities have been quick to recognise the player as one of their own.

'We are making moves to convince him to come play for the Nigerian Flying Eagles', an official of the Nigerian Football Association said. But even the senior coach wants him for the Super Eagles. Austin Eguavoen has stated that he would be visiting Aston Villa very soon to have talks with Agbonlahor and convince him that he stands a better chance of making a name for himself playing for Nigeria.
