The second Vice President of CAF, Almamy Kabele Camara, has reacted angrily to the ruling of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee on the CAF President Issa Hayatou. The IOC investigated a payment made to Hayatou on behalf of CAF by former FIFA/IOC partner the ISL Group of around 15,000 euros.
The IOC decided to remind CAF President Hayatou on his obligation to respect the Olympic charter and further reprimanded him for receiving the said amount of money.
Camara expressed dismay at the ruling saying that the CAF President never acted in breach of the Olympic charter and that it was the company ISL that decided to make a contribution to CAF on the occasion of the latter’s 40th anniversary.
“President Hayatou never received the money for his personal use, and he will never do such a thing”, Camara stated. He expressed frustration that all documents provided to support Hayatou’s defence were not appropriately viewed and taken into consideration.
“In the general principle of law, all doubt should benefit the accused”, Camara said “and this ruling, considering the inconclusive evidence, means that this ruling can be seen as contempt and a lack of consideration for the Pan-African institution” he concluded.
